Reputation for CEOs
“You can’t talk your way out of what you’ve behaved your way into.” A now famous quote on reputation from the banking sector used by our Deputy MD, Kate Blakeley, when she took to the floor at an exclusive ‘Reputation and Crisis Management’ Dinner for Chairs and CEOs in London last night.
Along with Reputation Inc’s Jonathan Chandler, Kate shared her experience and insights with a senior audience from fashion and retail sectors including Mamas & Papas, McColl, Topps Tiles, M&Co and Finery London. Kate outlined the challenges, as well as the opportunities for businesses to futureproof themselves in the context of corporate reputation.
In a world where social media means stories can catch fire in seconds, and reputations that have taken a lifetime to build can be damaged in seconds, Kate shared relevant case studies from M&S, Primark, Merlin and Lufthansa, outlining the key requirements for CEOs and corporations to protect their reputations and in turn, their businesses.
These included need for preparedness, stakeholder mapping, capability training, scenario planning, agility and authenticity. She also outlined the imperative for companies to ‘speak human’ in times of crisis & issues, as well as CEOs being highly visible across a range of stakeholder groups including, most importantly, internal audiences - a corporation’s biggest source of advocacy in today’s increasingly challenging consumer climate.
